Unsafe Installations Providing Low Security

With so many companies and self-proclaimed mechanics offering GPS tracker installations, how do you know whom you can trust to do a good job? Taking your expensive, or even not so expensive car to a random place to get it done is not wise, to say the least.  A GPS tracker is your last and only hope, that your asset will be found in case of a theft or misuse. Ideally, it would even prevent those. There are a few conditions, that need to be met to assure the expected outcome. But how can you be sure they really are met? Let's explain those conditions first.

First and foremost, this type of aftermarket equipment must interrupt some wires of the electrical system in your car, in order to prevent start. More popular as cut-off switch, starter kill or interlock, this function works by disconnecting circuits, vital for the vehicle's operation. This will always involve cutting your car's wires, and then connecting them to a cheap aftermarket relay, that your entire car relies to start on. You can hope the connections are properly made, hopefully even soldered or at least properly crimped. Sadly, in most cases they are not. Next thing to worry about is the reliability of a cheap relay, which is not waterproof or made to withstand the temperature fluctuations in a vehicle. On top of that, installers will often leave that relay in the engine compartment, where not only temperature is a problem, but also moisture, dust, oil and quite a few corrosive elements play a role. In short, with this kind of installation and low quality components, you can expect to get stuck on the road at any moment. Following are expenses for towing the car and lots of headaches with the dealer, including warranty issues.

A second significant issue is GPS trackers installed under the hood of your car. This is only done to save the time of the installer and out of laziness. In other cases, due to lack of experience and professional training. As a result of this kind of improper placement, the device will not only be providing a delayed and inaccurate location, because it's unable to acquire a good GPS signal, obstructed by the metal panels in the engine compartment, but eventually suffer water damage and fail. And sure enough, this always happens when you desperately need to find your car. It can also disable the car due to its failure, which, needless to say, is even less desired or expected.

The third big problem, and this is a huge one, is hiding and securing the device well enough. In 99% of the cases, the GPS tracker is placed behind a trim panel, almost always at the same location in every car. This makes it very easy to find and tamper with. It doesn't help when there are so many videos online, showing how to find it and bypass it. The purpose of our video below is to demonstrate how bad of a job you can find done even on high-end cars. It is not a tutorial how to steal a car. After watching it, hopefully you will do more research before entrusting your car to an unqualified installer. And hopefully, more installers will start doing their job the way they are supposed to, and you paid them for.

In the video below, you can see how easy it is to bypass a GPS tracker, installed by an incompetent installer. With the device being under the hood, the location was never accurate and slow to update.

The next video presents the Advanced Security Option by Startblocker in action.

Unlike all other competitors, Startblocker's installation can not be tampered with, it is virtually untraceable and impossible to find. It also prevents theft by relay attack.
